General Expectations
While the procedure of a hair transplant itself is a quick and easy process, mentally getting a transplant is a big deal. Your appearance is very important and changing it up is major life decision.
As such, patients usually come in with many questions before actually undergoing a hair restoration process. A common question asked is what the patient can expect right after the procedure. This question has a two-fold answer. First we can answer how the area will look and feel. Second we can talk about recovery time.
What Will the Area Look and Feel Life After Surgery?
Right after the procedure, the area of the transplant may be tender that night and into the following day. It is recommend to take a pain reliever for this tenderness, but if the pain continues or there is an exceeding tenderness, the patient can be prescribed a stronger medication.
As for the look of your transplant area, patients typically experience some small scabs about the size of a large strawberry seed as well as a little redness for the first couple of days. This redness will fade into a light pink and eventually completely fade by the first week after surgery.
Of course, everyone heals differently. Skin type plays a major role in your recovery time.
Hair Transplant Recovery
Like any other surgery, hair transplants require patients to take time to recover. While everyone recovers at a different pace, there are certain parameters that medical professionals advice.
It is suggested that patients with a manual labor job take a week to 10 days off to completely recover. However, this is not always possible. If a patient can’t take off the full amount of time, it is suggested that the client ask for a lighter workload for a week.
Patients in an office environment don’t need to worry about taking a prolonged amount of time off. Some patients are even known to return to work in the same day as hair transplant procedure.
