How Much is a Hair Transplant?
Hair transplants are typically priced by the graft in North America. The average graft across the country contains 2.2 hairs and can range in price from $3 to $9. Nation wide, prices can range from $3,800 - $20,000 per procedure depending on the surgeon, technique employed and size of the procedure. Some Techniques / Machines Offered Drive your Cost Up.
A recent Technique / Machine offered by some plastic surgeons that are beginning to do hair transplants is the Neo-Graft Machine. This is a machine that is used to harvest hair follicles from the donor region and then place the hair in the recipient area. This machine slows down most highly trained hair transplant surgeons and minimizes the number of hairs that can be transplanted in a given session. So, be wary of this technique offered.
In most cases you want to avoid a technique called Follicular Unit Extraction or Harvesting also known as (FUE). This technique takes the surgeon longer to perform, and increases the chance of some hairs being damaged (transected) during the harvesting technique and doesn't leverage the Medical Team's time and skills appropriately. While this technique has its place in certain types of hair transplants such as eyebrow, eyelash or very small procedures, generally speaking it is a procedure that drives up the cost per hair for the patient thereby not delivering a very good value in the end. How Do I Find out What My Hair Transplant will Cost?
The best way is to call or visit our clinic and speak with us about your particular situation. Your overall hair restoration goals need to be discussed in detail. Also, an examination of your donor hair is recommended to better determine your overall candidacy for hair restoration surgery. If you are not able to come in for a full analysis and consultation, we recommend you send pictures of the areas of hair loss as well as profile and a picture of the back of the head. While many patients today are hair restoration candidates, some are not.
Transplants have a cost per hair, or graft. If the clinic still charges by the graft, be sure and find out how many hairs will be transplanted. Then you can easily calculate the cost per hair.
