What is LLLT or Low Level Light Laser Therapy?
Low Level Light Laser Therapy is a proven non-surgical technology using low level light energy to treat and control hair loss and help men and women with fine thin hair. Hair re-growth is defined by Dr. Unger and colleagues as an increase of hair count of 11% or more from baseline count.
Low Level Laser Therapy Featured on The Doctors
This technology has been seen on many T.V. shows and more recently on the Nashville based show The Doctors hosted by Nashville’s Dr. Travis Stork. During the show, Dr. Zerring illustrated how the new hooded laser emits low level light therapy to “increase cell metabolism to help the hair grow thicker and fuller.”
He explains that low level laser photons irradiate the entire scalp increasing micro-circulation of blood supplies to the hair follicles. This photobioactivating treatment uses a special light source to increase blood flow and follicle microcirculation. This pure red, “soft” laser stimulates the scalp, significantly increasing the number of red corpuscles that deliver life giving oxygen and vital nutrients to the hair bulb. This in turn increases nutrient supply to increase skin repair and hair growth. It also activates the body’s anti-inflammatory repair and regenerative mechanisms which have been shown to significantly increase healing after hair restoration surgery.
Hair follicles that are dormant and not dead can often be rehabilitated. Existing established hair becomes thicker, looks and feels softer and is easier to manage. This wavelength doesn’t burn or damage tissue like the higher wavelength lasers used in surgery to cut or cauterize tissue.
Scientific Measured Benefits of Low Level Light Laser.
Professor Andre Mester is considered the father of Laser Biostimulation. In 1967 professor Mester noted that while experimenting with laboratory mice he discovered that low energy laser radiation accelerated healing of wounds and damaged hairs around the wounded area. He noted a rapid increase in the amount of collagen, an increase in micro-circulation, quicker re-growth and thickening of the hairs in the affected area.
In the most recently conducted FDA clinical trials of the device, patients studied were men and women with thinning hair in the scalp area. The patients received two low-level laser light treatments per week over a six month period.
